Introduction

You and your two friends are going on a holiday to one Australian city when you graduate from Pacific Gateway. However, you can't agree on where to go! One of you wants to go to Melbourne, one of you wants to go to Perth, and one of you wants to go to Sydney. Your group can only go to ONE city!! In your group of three, each research a city by yourself. Then with your group, you will talk about your city and say why it is the best, comparing it with the other two cities.

The Quest

Which city is the best for a holiday, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth? Why?

The Process and Resources

By yourself, research either Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth with the websites provided. You can look at other websites too if you need.

Phase 1 - Background: Something for Everyone

Follow the instructions below

Phase 2 - Looking Deeper from Different Perspectives

Follow the instructions below.

The person who wants to go to Sydney

1. You REALLY want to go to Sydney! Research Sydney, making notes about why it's such a great place to visit. When you have finished, you will have to try to make your group choose Sydney for your holiday.

The person who wants to go to Perth

1. You REALLY want to go to Perth! Research Perth, making notes about why it's such a great place to visit. When you have finished, you will have to try to make your group choose Perth for your holiday.

  • Perth - facts about Perth

The person who wants to go to Melboutne

1. You REALLY want to go to Melbourne! Research Melbourne, making notes about why it's such a great place to visit. When you have finished, you will have to try to make your group choose Melbourne for your holiday.

Phase 3 - Debating, Discussing, and Reaching Consensus

You have researched your city! Now you must discuss your information and choose one city to visit on your holiday. Remember, you REALLY want to go to the city you researched! Try to convince the other group members that your city is the best.

Example 'Sydney is better than Perth or Melbourne because the nightlife is more exciting.'

Phase 4 - Real World Feedback

You and your teammates have learned a lot by dividing up into different roles. Now's the time to put your learning into a letter you'll send out for real world feedback. Together you will write a letter that contains opinions, information, and perspectives that you've gained. Here's the process:

1. Begin your letter with a statement of who you are and why you are writing your message to this particular person or organization.

2. Give background information that shows you understand the topic.

STATE THE TASK / QUEST(ION) AND YOUR GROUP'S ANSWER.

3. Each person in your group should write a paragraph that gives two good reasons supporting the group's opinion. Make sure to be specific in both the information (like where you got it from on the Web) and the reasoning (why the information proves your group's point).

4. Have each person on the team proofread the message. Use correct letter format and make sure you have correctly addressed the email message. Use the link below to make contact. Send your message and make sure your teacher gets a copy.

Your Contact is: the designated contact
