Australia is a wonderful country with a fantastic range of things to do. The 6 states and 2 territories of Australia encompass many hundreds of towns and cities. Knowing when and where special events take place can help you plan your Australian Adventure!
Which are the most fun and interesting festivals in Australia?
In this WebQuest you will work together with a partner and together be allocated one state or territory in Australia. Your task is to research the festivals of that state/territory. We are going to use real Webpages and not things made just for schools and so the reading level might challenge you. Feel free to use the online Webster dictionary or one provided by your teacher.
The website below provides a place for you to research information on festivals in your state/territory.
- Australian Festivals - STOP RIGHT THERE!!! DO NOT click on this site yet! FIRST, you must read the rest of this page. This site provides information on festivals all over Australia.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. You and your WebQuest partner will explore one of the following states or territories (the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria or Western Australia). Please check with your teacher which one you should explore.
2. Click on the website link 'Australian Festivals'.
3. Use the Search Box on the right hand side of the page to select your state/territory and time period.
4. Read the information listed and use provided hyperlinks to explore websites outside that page (such as home pages for particular festivals).
5. Make notes as you need them and write down web site addresses in case you need to go back to any sites.
6. You and your WebQuest partner must find the most interesting, fun and exciting festival in your state/territory!
7. Be sure to take notes on important information about your festival. Also, keep a record of website addresses.
Research festivals in the state or territory you have been allocated.
Your teacher will have already allocated you a state or territory (the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria or Western Australia).
Read about the different festivals in your state/territory. When you have decided which one you think is the most interesting, fun and exciting, take notes on the following information:
What is the name of the festival?
Where is it?
When is it?
How long does it go for?
What's it about?
What can you do there?
How much do events cost?
Any other interesting or helpful facts?
WHY DO YOU THINK THIS FESTIVAL IS THE BEST?
Are you and your partner convinced that you have found the best festival in your state/territory? If so, congratulations! Maybe you are already planning a trip to attend! Discuss with your WebQuest partner how you will convince your classmates that it is indeed the most interesting, fun and exciting festival.
You have all learned about different Aussie festivals. You are going to share this information with your classmates. On top of this, you are going to try to convince them that YOUR chosen festival is THE ABSOLUTE BEST and that we should all attend!
You and your WebQuest partner will now make a poster to advertise your fantastic festival. This poster should provide all important details (such as when and where the festival is held and what it's all about) and help convince us that your festival is indeed the best!
A festival expo will be held to determine which festival we should attend together!Your Contact is: the designated contact
Have you found a festival that you would like to attend? Somewhere new that you would like to go to? Maybe there are many new places and events that you will now need to fit into your time in Australia! Happy planning! Good luck and have fun!
