ABTA Association of British Travel Agents - A commercial association with links to its 2300 members. Lots of information tucked away. Ordering brochures apparently accoounts for 20% of site traffic.
ASTA The American Society of Travel Agents - Consumer and member information. Claims to be world's largest organisation of travel professionals.
Association of Independent Tour Operators - Association for smaller independent travel companies operating from Britain.
Association of National Park Authorities - Information on some of our most dramatic and varied landscapes, now protected as National Parks. Links to Britain's 12 National Parks.
Aviation search engine and directory - Aeroseek - Lots of information for air travellers. However links to commercial sites and annoying advert pop-ups.
Baltic Sea Tourism Commission - Baltic Sea Tourism Commission - includes members, press travel trade as well as visitor information.
British Incoming Tour Operators Association (UKinbound) - Website of the official body representing Britain's inbound tourism industry. Known as UKinbound from 8 Nov 2004. Comprehensive information about British travel trade producers and suppliers for visitors from overseas destinations.
Caribbean Tourist Association - Links to 32 member Caribbean destinations.
Central European Countries Travel Association - CECTA - Central European Countries Travel Association.
Centre for Environmental Responsible Tourism - Charity or not for profit status; encourages responsible tourism practices.
Dept for Culture, Media + Sport - Official government department site.
European Cities Tourism - An association for members but also links to public information on around 200 European cities.
European Union Tourism page - EUROPA - Tourism and the EU home page.
Fit for Travel - A public access site from NHS (Scotland)- worth a look. A-Z clickable index as well as country and world map index.
Health Advice for Travellers (not avail) - The official British government advice for travellers worldwide. Health risks and how to avoid them.
Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management - The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM) is the professional body for the leisure industry and represents the interests of leisure managers across all sectors and specialisms of leisure. Sports facilities are represented as well as tourism and visitor attractions.
Institute of Travel and Tourism - Online portal for the Institute of Travel and Tourism. The site claims to be dynamic. Details of forthcoming conferences etc. Useful links.
International Travel and Health - By the World Health Organisation aimed at medical personnel but lots of important information.
Internet for Travel and Tourism - One of the Resource Discovery Network series of subject guides. How to get the best from web resources.
Intute - Includes reviewed Internet resources in hospitality, leisure, sport and tourism. A JISC funded service.
John Beech's Travel and Tourism Information - An oft quoted comprehensive set of links for academic study. John Beech is based at Coventry Business School where he is responsible for Leisure, Sport and Tourism Management. There are currently almost 900 links for the Tourism information gateway and a similar number for Leisure and Sport combined.
Organization of World Heritage Cities - OWHC - Links and descriptions of 203 cities on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Statistics on Tourism and Research (STAR) - Official website of UK liaison group.
The Tourism Society - A site aimed at tourism professionals. It aims to provide a forum for professionals working in, studying or otherwise interested in tourism across all its sectors worldwide.
Tourism Education Website - Website from Association for Tourism in Higher Education (ATHE. This started as a LTSN (Learning and Teaching Support Network) resource in association with Buckinghamshire and Chilterns University College, Oxford Brookes University and King Alfred's, Winchester.
Tourism Internet Sites - An Australian academic list of links from Murdoch University.
Tourism Research Links by Rene Waksberg - For tourism researchers not travellers. Maintained from 1996 to 2005.
Tourism Statistics - A comprehensive listing of websites providing travel statistics from St Martins's College, University of Lancaster
Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) - A range of information including data on statistics, trends and performance indicators.
Travel Mole - An online community for the travel and tourism industry.
Visit Central Europe - Joint marketing initiative from CECTA: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

World Heritage - UNESCO - Search the World Heritage List; also educational site and young person's site.
World Tourism Organization - An international organisation set up by the United Nations. Based in Madrid. In 2003 membership reached 141 countries and 350 affiliate members from educational institutions, tourist authorities etc.
World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) - The goal of the council is to work, in conjucttion with governments, to realise economic impact of travel and tourism.

Visit USA Association - Although there is no official tourist board site for America this links to individual state tourism marketing and convention bureaus.

'Guardian' newspaper Travel - A commercial site from 'The Guardian' newspaper.
'Telegraph' newspaper Travel - A commercial site but useful for articles on travel destinations and reports.
'The Times' Travel pages - From 'The Times' newspaper - lots of reports and features; search facilities.
BBC Holiday - Website of the long-running 'Holiday' programme.
CNTraveller.com - Conde Naste travel site (from one of the Vogue group of magazines). Emphasis on expense and luxury but you'll find online travel guides to countries, destinations, travel advice as well as photo galleries.
Lonely Planet Guides - A commercial site for the Lonely Planet series of guidebooks. Good links to other websites under 'SubWWWay'; postcard tips from travellers worldwide; health advice from 'travel tiker' etc.
Off the Beaten Track - Independent site providing not-for-profit advice/tourist information on a number of travel destinations. Currently information on West Cornwall and Estonia is available.
Rough Guides - Popular publisher of book travel guides for independent travellers.
This is Travel ('Daily Mail' travel site) - A very commercial site but lots of sub topics to explore.
Travel Trade Weekly - Website of the Travel Trade Weekly journal for the travel industry. Links to online supplements and gazeteers. Also links to website resources.

Aberdeen + Grampian Tourist Board - Regional Tourist Board for North East Scotland and Aberdeen city.
Angus + The City of Dundee Tourist Board - Official Regional Tourist Board for the County of Angus and City of Dundee in East central Scotland.
Ayrshire + Arran Tourist Board - Regional Tourist Board website.
Bath - City of Georgian architecture, Bath Abbey, Roman Baths and Pump Room, Royal Crescent and the new Thermae Bath Spa.

Airlines of the Web - Commercial online booking and search facility with links to main airlines (500+).
Association of Leading Visitor Attractions - (ALVA) - Commercial site of members of the association but you can find details of museums, heritage, cathedrals, leisure attractions and gardens in various regions of Britain.
Brit Find - A commercial website. American origins with prices in dollars. Lets you search for tourist attractions but also strong commercial representation.
Brochurepoint - Express brochure ordering service from magazines, eg AA magazine, and tourist direct mailshots. UK destinations advertised.
England Tourist Sites - A commercial site in association with Amazon booksellers. Arranged by town and district alphabetically A-C, D-K, L-R, S-Z. Mixture of sites from official and unofficial sources.
The Travellers Guide - Commercial site. An online resource for booking hotels and guesthouses worldwide. Treat with caution.
Tourist Boards Directory for UK and Ireland - Actually a commercial site from Amazon the booksellers and you can establish links to the site - so not a definitive official listing.
Travel with PATA - Consumer website for travel in Asia Pacific region; includes destination guides and travel deals.
UK Away - A commercial travel directory site. Links to flights, hotels, car parking etc worldwide as well as in Britain.
Via Michelin - Routes and maps throughout Europe as well as commercial hotels, restaurants, tyres and other services.
World Travel Guides - Commercial site and beware annoying pop-ups. From Columbus Guides and various trading partners but claims to be international country information resource.
