Introduction
I'd like to plant a seed. I'd like to plant a seed with fellow educators and let that seed grow by letting them plant that seed with their students. Who knows where it may go from there. Just as a tree will grow from a small seed, so too will the ideas on how to use what I share with you here. And it all will stem from a short story about a man who planted trees. 'The Man Who Planted Trees' is an inspiring story about a man who restored a region of France by planting acorns until a forest was born and the land was rejuvenated. This hot list is intended to help teachers wishing to use this story with their students. This story can be used to teach about trees and the environment, history, geography, French, and language arts. You may want to copy and paste the story into a word document which would allow you to edit the format to better suite your needs. For example: size it to fit on fewer pages for easier printing or put each paragraph on a numbered page and allow individual students to do an illustration and collect this for your class’s own illustrated edition. This would also allow students to practice reading it one paragraph at a time or to look up the meanings of difficult vocabulary words.
You may have ideas of your own and I'd like to hear them.
