- What do those rings on the worms mean? Do they even do anything? As a matter of fact, they do. These ring like structures are seperated by internal partitions. Each ring has a nerve center or ganglia, digestive, excretory and locomotor organs. From these the worms are able to expand and contract giving it a complex movement.
