Timeline anyone?

• From New France to Modern Quebec - This site is mainly a linear timeline which lists significant events in the history of Quebec. Also useful as it has hyperlinks to other websites to further explore the world of New France. Basic information presented but a good visualization of significant people and events in the history of New France. Good for upper elementary to high school.

General Resources on New France

• Virtual Museum of New France - An excellent websire which allows you to explore every facet of life in New France, from exploration to the Fall of New France in 1760. Great resource! Definitely for higher grades, as language and grammar might be a bit difficult for lower grades.

• New France: New Horizons - A website database with a plethora of information from the time period. Contains interactive exploration of the time period through both audio and visual medias. Great site for middle to upper school students. You may need to install RealPlayer to listen to the audio selections.

• The First Nations of New France - A decent website to be used as a starting point for further research in the First Nation groups found during the time of New France. Basic information present and good for middle to upper grades.

• Jesuit Relations and the History of New France - A website that documents the history of New France through the eyes of the Jesuit missionaries that were present during the pinnacle of New France. A large amount of information and sometimes difficult read. Grades 10 and up.

Location, Location, Location

• The Fortress of Louisbourg - A website based around the Fortress of Louisbourg; an authentic recreation of an 18th century fortress. The website is rich in information, text and pictures, about what people's lives were like during the time period. Good for basics, but could be used for upper elementary to high school.

• Grand-Pre National Historic Site - This site commemorates the Acadians of Minas Basin and the event which took them from their homes, the Deportation. A basic website, with pictures, that would be a great starting place for further exploration of the Deportation of the Acadians. Good for middle to upper grade levels.

• Port Royal Historic Site - Good website designed to allow the exploration of life in the first French permanent settlement in North America - Port Royal (about to celebrate their 400th year anniversary). An interactive slideshow enhances the website to allow students to get a feel for the replica buildings and what life might have been like. Good for most grades.

• Histor!ca - Great website designed to promote Canadian History. User friendly with a specific nod towards teachers, with lesson plans designed around the CBC Heritage moments.

• Statistics Canada - A lesson plan based around census data from New France 1665-1666. Students role play Jean Talon and prepare a presentation to convince the King of France to increase his investment in New France.
