Introduction
The following collection of web sites will take you through an exploration of how technology can increase the 'Power of Thought' in your classroom in five areas, as defined by Strong, Silver, and Perini in their ASCD book - 'Teaching What Matters Most', 2001.

San Diego Zoo Elephant Cam - Take a look at some live views of elephants. Notice their habitat.

Knowledge Acquisition

Annette Lamb's Eduscapes: Teacher Tools - Teacher Tools – Puzzles, Quizzes, and Activity Builders and much, much more.... A must see!
Discovery School: Teaching Tools - Visit this site and launch the Quiz Center, Puzzlemaker, Worksheet Generator or Lesson Planning Tool. Feel free to register as this site is free and very reliable. It also is a great site to invite your students to visit. Empower them to create away!
Helping Teachers Use the Internet Effectively: PowerPoint - Visit this site to find web links to a variety of educational PowerPoint presentations. They could serve as examples to you and your students as you get started on your own projects. You will also see some great tips on using PowerPoint effectively in instruction. When you scroll down you will also see a variety of game templates.
Inspiration Software - Inspiration offers a free 30 day trial as well as lots of examples, ideas and instructions for using both Inspiration and Kidspiration.
PowerPoint Game Templates - Four great game templates available to download. Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Twenty Questions, Guess the Covered Word and a version of Hollywood Squares.
S.C.O.R.E. Graphic Organizers - This California site hosts a nice variety of graphic organizers for you to check out. Instructions are included.
The Graphic Organizer - A great source for information on using graphic organizers with lots of examples.
United Streaming - You can choose a demo and see how videostreaming works for yourself. Requires that you download Windows Media Player if it is not already on your computer. Visit the Learning Resources listed at the top of the page once you are logged in to see a host of ways you can use this powerful tool.

Communication

Blogger - This is a free weblog site that can help you get started. Take the tour to start your journey through blogging land.
Blogging at CESA 3 - SchoolBlogs are also a great collaborative tool. Working projects between schools across the globe can be provided with an online platform in a matter of seconds. SchoolBlogs can also produce discussion and information flows within an individual educational establishment, that are far more dynamic and effective than a traditional 'intranet'. Teachers and students are motivated to share information because they have ownership of it. This site provides a wealth of examples from educational settings.
Judi Harris' Virtual Architecture Projects and Activities - Judi Harris is a national expert on the use of the Internet in instruction. Her structures and examples will motivate you and give you a place to get started.
Kagan's Cooperative Learning Site - Visit Spencer Kagan's Online Magazine for lots of practical tips and strategies. The Structure-a-Month link even gives you downloadable directions and blackline masters!
KidLink - Empowering youth to build global networks of friends.
Ohio Edublogging - This site has been created to establish a dialog about using weblogs as a teaching aid in Ohio classrooms. They have enormous potential for educational uses. Visit this site to see what is going on in Ohio as well as to link to other 'blogging' sites.
Pacific Bell's Videoconferencing in the Classroom and Library - The Pacific Bell Knowledge Network Explorer Videoconferencing for Learning Web site supports the effective and educational uses of videoconferencing technology by providing basic information about the technology and instructional applications as well as resources to help you link with other videoconferencing teachers, librarians, and content providers.
The New Plagarism - This article by Jamie McKenzie is a part of collection of articles from his 'From Now On' web site. It is very useful for practical ideas on how to avoid students plagarizing.
Western Reserve Video Conferencing Resources - Western Reserve Public Media has teamed up to create this excellent listing of videoconferencing opportunites from K-12 content providers. Browse away!

Applying Big6 Skills™and Information Literacy Standards to Internet Research - This excellent site by expert Janet Murray will launch you and your students into using the Big 6 for information problem-solving. Janet even ties in the Information Literacy standards and NETS for students. It has been recently updated and is better than ever.
Developing Elementary Online Projects - Another page from BioPoint with step-by-step plans and lots of practical tips.
INFOhio Electronic Resources - Visit INFOhio for a wealth of online databases free to all K-12 teachers and students.

Problem Solving/Problem-Based Learning

Beyond Cut and Paste - Jamie McKenzie does it again with a new book to support information literacy. This link takes you to a few chapters he has provided free of charge on his web site.
Cyberbee - At the Adventures of the Cyberbee site be sure and visit Research Tools for lots of assistance with implementing the Big 6. While there, you'll want to see what other resources fit your curriculum in the upcoming year.
Eduscapes:Locating and Evaluating WebQuests - This is a good place to start if you are interested in WebQuests. Lots of samples are provided as well as tips to pick out a quality webquest.
Filamentality - Visit Filamentality by Pacific Bell to create your very own Hotlist, Scavenger Hunt, or WebQuest. They will even host for one year and longer if you are revisiting your site and making changes.
Five Actions to Big6 Problem-Based Lessons Using Graphic Organizers - This page from Miguel Guhlin is a great resource when implementing the Big 6. Miguel has paired each step of the process with rich graphic organizers.
