ARE CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES
MORE ALIKE OR MORE DIFFERENT?

Well, here is your chance to find out! You will be working in groups of two or three. Each group will explore one aspect of Canada and share this new knowledge with the rest of the class. You will be working on this project at home as well as in school. Good luck!!





Questions

  1. HOLIDAYS
    What holidays are celebrated in Canada?
    When are they celebrated?
    Select three holidays that are different than the United States and explain each in detail. Create a calendar.

  2. SPORTS/RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
    What sports are played in Canada?
    Which sports are most popular? Why?
    List Canadian sports teams. Include photographs.

  3. FLAG/ANTHEM
    What does the Canadian flag look like?
    When was it created?
    What does each part of the flag mean?
    What is Canada's national anthem?

  4. GEOGRAPHY: POLITICAL MAP
    Create a political map including the provinces, each capital, the three territories and
    and the various time zones. Don't forget your map key!

  5. GEOGRAPHY: PHYSICAL MAP
    Create a physical map of Canada. Include all of the major landforms, the bodies of water and the climate of each area.
    Be sure to include a map key (legend).

  6. GOVERNMENT:
    What type of government does Canada have?
    Who is the leader of Canada? What are some of his/her responsibilities? Include a photograph of this person.
    How does Canada's government run?
    How does Canada's government compare to the United States?

  7. ECONOMY/RESOURCES
    What does Canadian currency look like?
    Convert an American item into how much it would cost in Canada.
    What are the imports and exports of Canada? Create a product map.

  8. FOODS
    What foods are most popular in Canada?
    Why do you think this is?
    Find three recipes. Create one and share with the class.
    Create a mini cookbook of your favorite Canadian recipes.

  9. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
    Why do people want to visit Canada?
    Research 5 attractions and find out where they are located and why people visit there. Create a brochure of each attraction.

  10. HISTORY
    What is the history of Canada?
    Create a timeline including photographs of ten major historical events.
