Resources

The simplest resource is a hotlist. Everybody knows what hotlists are--big long lists of hypertext links to other places. They were one of the first applications to hit the Internet. They were the first attempt to fight the information overload that occurs during normal web searching. They are the net version of library pathfinders and bibliographies, and are often called "webliographies."

Just about anybody can put up an Internet site and that's one of the problems. The majority of sites have not been through any of the evaluative processes to which published print materials are subject. Many hotlists are lists of resources (links) that have been carefully assembled and evaluated by someone who is concerned about providing access to reliable, authoritative, and current resources. If they are obsessive and compulsive, all the better!

At the heart of every good web-based lesson or activity is a good hotlist. Here are a few hotlists that you can use in your classroom or library. These hotlists are intended to supplement the information provided in the Big6TM overview or to augment your use of the Big6TM game. Activities
Here are some activities to get you going on your path to fuller understanding of the Big6.

  • Try our Nuts and Bolts of Big6 Treasure Hunt.
  • Try a webquest entitled, Investigating PBL from San Diego State University used for a 1996 CSU Faculty Development Institute. (Use the hypertext resources to complete the webquest; see what others wrote).
