Adding Hypertext Links

One thing you might want to do is add more links to sites on the Internet. This will turn you into a gen-u-wine HTML hacker. Oh well, it had to happen to somebody... It's actually pretty easy, it just takes some detail work. Just remember these two bits:

Hypertext Link
  1. Anchor your link (<A...) with a Hypertext reference (HREF=) then add the URL (the http://www.... thing).

    add link title graphic

  2. Add the name or title of the Internet link (this is what shows up as a hotlink through the browser).

  3. End the anchor (</A>) to tell the browser when to end the colored hypertext hotlink.

  4. Add any description you want. This gives people info on the site so they can tell if they want to check it out.

  5. You've done it!

An E-mail Link

Now we'll add an email link (this is good netiquette plus it could get you some good PR). Start with the <A HREF=> tag, then you add a "mailto:" to tell the Internet you're sending an email message, not just shooting off to another web site.

set anchor for email graphic

  1. Then type in the email address (this is now like adding the URL).

    add email address

  2. We like to make the link name the email address so people will know it's an email link, not a personal homepage. If you want you can be difficult and go ahead and type the person's name instead of the email address.

    add email name graphic

  3. Then it's anchors away again!

    end the link graphic

  4. Here's an example:

Filamentality: fill-in-the-blanks and make a web page. education@att.com

Here's "draggable" HTML (you could just "fill in the red parts" with your info):

    <A HREF=http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/>Filamentality</A>:

     fill-in-the-blanks and make a web page. <A HREF=mailto:education@AT&T.com>education@AT&T.com</A>
