Once you locate a pool of potential grants, the real work begins. The following resources will help you gain the background knowledge that you need to write a good proposal. If you think we've missed something, please use the KNE Feedback form to tell us about it.

* Online Grantwriting Resources

  1. Writing a Successful Grant Proposal is part of a large site from the Minnesota Council on Foundations. Lots of info here that is generic.

  2. From Alan November, a 22 page PDF entitled, "Winning Grants," which leads you through the process of writing a proposal.

  3. The Foundation Center is a beautiful site divided into many distinct information modules. Among them:
    1. Proposal Writing short course available in multiple languages
    2. Prospect Worksheets help you identify funders whose priorities match your project.
    3. Proposal writing FAQ: Dig even deeper to specific parts of the proposal with these tutorials and resources
    4. Online Training Courses interactive online training courses are detailed guided courses that reinforce lessons with interactivity, assignments, and self-tests.
    5. Face-to-face learning is also available at various locations throughout the US

  4. Non-Profit Guides includes Overview, samples of pre-proposal inquiries, cover letters, Budget, Useful Links, and more.

  5. Tutorials, Briefs, and Webcasts: resources from Resource Management Systems, Inc., covers topics such as "What Every Manager Needs to Know About Budgeting"; "Get Your IT Project Funded- 5 Steps to Improve the Odds"; and "Writing Effective Project Proposals."

  7. GrantProposal.com, devoted to providing free resources for both advanced grantwriting consultants and inexperienced nonprofit staff.

  8. Show Me the Money: Tips and Resources for Successful Grant Writing from Education World, covers basic aspects of grant writing with links to more resources.

  9. Corporation for Public Broadcasting has a nice resource, Grant Proposal Writing Tips.
