Introduction to the Knowledge Network Explorer

The Knowledge Network Explorer (KNE) began in 1992 in response to the needs of California teachers, librarians, and students. Faced with a daunting array of technologies and the overwhelming need to train students and staff in the use of technology, the Knowledge Network Explorer developed new services for schools, libraries, and community colleges.

A key component of the California-based program, the Education First Initiative, was to equip educational institutions with ISDN technology and enable access to on-line resources, videoconferencing, and other electronic learning applications. The Education First ISDN offer ended December 31, 1997. library graphic

And the beat goes on....
Education First was never "just" a free year of high-speed telecommunications. While the offer of free ISDN lines ended on December 31, 1997, the Knowledge Network Explorer still offers several very popular "products and services" including:
  • Wired Learning in the Classroom and Library: lessons, activities, tools, and resources developed by our team of librarians and teachers, all of whom are experienced instructional designers and web developers. This area is a must-see for teachers and librarians!

To assist with training and support, our team of former teachers and librarians, called Education Advocates, provide workshops and presentations throughout various areas served by the AT&T family of companies. These free workshops introduce new technologies, help integrate existing technologies, and are customized to fit your needs.

  • The AT&T family of companies markets numerous voice, data, and video products. In our Discount Programs and Funding section, you will find information on special programs, discounts, and funding opportunities that can help schools and libraries solve common, and not so common, technology problems.
